Ten years, more than 1,000 live shows and three recording projects ago, Matt Prater wrote his first song.
Prater, a singer songwriter, is the perfect blend of country, folk, and bluegrass that remains relevant to all generations. Son to a cattle farmer in north Alabama, that had a passion for music, simple living, hard work, and were honest God fearing folk. It's no surprise that Matt draws upon his family and his upbringings as a source of inspiration for many of his songs. Matt has been surrounded by music and musicians his entire life, but only started writing and performing live in 2006.
In 2010, he recorded his first album, "Small Town Son” followed by “The Mountain” in 2013. The albums are filled with stories of family, poetry, humble beginnings, and Southern American tradition. His music is real and authentic, its "Roots Run Deep."
Following those successes he independently produced “Tables and Chairs.” In Tables and Chairs, you really get to enjoy his storytelling genius abilities, especially in "The Barber," and "Bozeman." With heartfelt original music that has received great reviews from many industry professionals. Matt has been an opener for such acts as Shenandoah and The Henningsens.
“A long, tall, cool drink of water with old school country in his veins. Storyteller of old!!” – Lucky Mud
The Alternate Root Magazine states “Picking up a guitar and learning to play is the easy part of songwriting. Stitching stories with a straightforward frankness and making it look easy is the tough part. Matt Prater aced both.”
Matt is currently working on his next album scheduled to be released Spring 2017. Follow on Facebook, subscribe via Youtube and continue to check out the show updates here on the website. Matt performs a couple of shows weekly and is available for booking with a full band or solo acoustic.
